On Church Attacks

Some thoughts on the church burning issue:

1. There is no chaos. Only a few individuals are responsible for this.

2. For some reason or another, they want the public to THINK that there's a racial/religion unrest, and hope that things tip over and create a bigger mess. Or maybe it's just their fetish to burn things...

3. Even if they are really against the usage of “Allah” by Christians, they do not represent the entire population. Best proof would be the planned protest after mosque prayers last friday had a poor turnout. And the arsonists are an even smaller subset of this group, as not all of the former-mentioned are terrorists.

4. The culprit will not succeed because they are not powerful enough to create such unrest. They will only succeed if we be stupid enough to allow it.

5. If you insist on pointing the finger, pleasex100 take a moment to THINK properly who are directly responsible for this. Do not generalize things.

6. Do not EVER blame the country. Be fair.

7. A quote from a very “wise” but anonymous friend – “a lot ppl tumpang glamour wan chan. they just wanna show tat they noe this issue”. Do not do this, you’re making things worse.

8. Sorry if you already know this. Facebook is still filled with many heart aching status updates.

Consolidating 2009

A new year calls for a celebration, as it marks the end of a cycle and the beginning of another anew.

Equally important, it is also a time for self-reconciliation and consolidation.

2009 was whacky, with many ups and downs.

I’ve got a taste of working – 3 months of internship. Tough as crap, but great experience nonetheless. Hate the traffic.

I’ve commuted a lot – trains and express busses. Which was excellent, as it gave me lots of time to read. Finished approx 12 books in 6 months (2009’s resolution accomplished).

My 2009's weekends were non existent.

I stood along Jalan Tun Razak at 6a.m. marshalling the lanes for marathon runners; volunteered to help at the KL Standard Charted Marathon. And Déjà vu, I waited 2 hours for a delayed 2.45am IPOH-KL train at 2.45am on a separate occasion.

I studied like hell, and slacked equally as much. The end is near, 6 more months and I’m done for good. Always great to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I travelled north for a day’s event, two days before college exam. I did it again for my external paper.

I brought 30+ orang asli kids to KL for an education trip.

My dumbo brother registered for marriage. I got myself a new sister.

[Not their kids!]

And in a short span of a month, I’ve lost 2 maternal uncles. I was never close to my extended family members, but their passing brought us all a little close. More importantly, they reminded me of my roots and values.

My uncles lived a modest life in a kampung. The first had a simple job, while the seond runs a sundry shop. But both supported their families well – children are all grown up, education, and independent.

The sudden passing of the first uncle reminded me to never forgot my origins no matter where or what I am. Whilst the other’s last words were advice to always work hard, and be filial towards parents.

And I long and hope for such simplicity.

Anyways, here’s a happy 2010 to everyone!

Beware: Weird strange post ahead.

Always had this daydream that if it’s possible to return to 12 years old whilst keeping the current mental state, would be more than glad to re-chart career path. Some of the things that I would really wanna do:

1. Green Engineering
With so much of global warming and go green hype/fad going around, it’s a gold mine out there. Just need to start a company, invent and build some stuff that is practical, save the environment, and volaa, sell the company after that.

Idea – an environment-friendly lunch box to replace the polystyrene ones.

2. Be a farmer
Often mistaken as a low earning job, that’s old school agriculture. Quite to the contrary, modern agriculture is huge prospect. Trick is to think big; imagine 100 acres of food produce, flowers, and deco plants.

Alright, will admit that side reason is because I love greenies.

3. Lone wondering artisan
Guitar strapped at back, wondering and performing gigs on streets.

4. Health food cafe
Trust me, people of late are a lot more health conscious. People know what about calorie and a good diet. (Or maybe it’s just me)

Café serves delicious healthy food at reasonable prices. Also has good homey ambience – think Starbucks. May have a gym next door.

5. Take up pro wrestling
Just kidding

6. Guest house at beach
Fly to KK, sail to one of the many beautiful beaches, set up a guest house.

Provide services like renting (beach ball, snorkeling gear, books), easy food, spa/massage, and live music (only pop and à la Hawaii allowed).

On the other hand, I’ll be lying all day on a hammock reading a book, with a jug of pineapple juice beside. Will go for occasional snorkeling in between. Oh, and will have a companion dog along, he’s called Ajax.

Alas, it’s a little too late. Fate is rather sealed. Future will involve lots of numbers, leather shoes, and ties. Blahh… boring!

I’ll know exam is near when I.....

- keep clearing table and bedroom, but it gets messy again by the end of the day
- see people talking to fortune tellers on facebook
- have a beard like a prisoner
- dreamt that I have a cow for sale at RM1,100 and Kelana Jaya Station is in a kampong (???)
- run out of coffee
- missed Liverpool kickassing 4 - 0
- when there's sudden surge for peanut butter and jam at 3.35am - satisfied
- the Polystyrene "tah pao" packet is on the table after 2 days - spoon attached
- need EyeMo Moist for your eyes
- when there’s no Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday but just 3 days to exam, 2 days to exam, 1 day to exam and it’s freaking exam

Why the ruckus over a temple relocation?

Totally perplexed by the temple relocation and cow head protest issue that had been ongoing for the past few weeks.

Am having difficulties finding a REASON as to why the heck would people be so emotional over a temple relocation to their neighbourhood (Section 13).

Can only conclude that this is unfortunately a political ploy – that the whole protest fiasco was yet another plan by the “unseen hands” to create racial unrest and continue the plot to topple Selangor’s Pakatan Rakyat Government.

Thinking rationally, are our Muslims friends that inconsiderate, that they are so die heartedly against having an Indian temple anywhere near their neighbourhood? To suggest that people can be so intolerant makes no sense.

Here’s an extract of Bernama’s report on this issue a couple of days back:

“The issue was over the new site for the Sri Mariamman temple in Section 23 from its original location in Section 19.

Yesterday, about 200 Muslim residents in Section 23 had gathered to protest the relocation of the temple at a 0.2ha site about 160m from their houses.

The residents had questioned the logic of building a temple in the area as the 400-odd residents comprised only 40 per cent Indians while 60 per cent were Malay"

No seriously people… against the relocation because it’s a Muslim majority area of 60:40?

Oh gawd, they’re treating us like idiots again, and I don’t like it!

Coupled with previous mishaps on PR’s leaders in Selangor – Teressa Kok ISA arrest over the azan issue, Khalid’s purported mishandling of state funds, Ronnie Liu’s, beer issue, Teoh Beng Hock’s death, etc – it is pretty darn clear what’s happening isn’t it? Click here if you don’t.

As of now, am even more convinced by Dr. Farish’s Noor argument that racial lines have no biological or historical basis, but are deliberately being used as a political tool for one reason or another. (Farish Noor’s interview @ Malaysiakini here)

Physical Dilapidation

Long hours of overtime studies and facing the PC has put great pressure on the eyes. Can physically feel the strain.

Upper back and shoulders are also aching as hell; though chronic but is much more achy of late. Why do i have the feeling that I'll turn into an old bloke with much body pain all round in the near future?

Ain't good. Man's half way down before exam even begins!

Not So Apathetic Anymore

Attended the Malaysian Student Leaders Summit organized by UKEC the past weekend. Was basically [cutpaste from official website] “a platform for intellectual and scholastic discourse between the prominent figures and also the Malaysian student leaders from around the world”.

Darn, sounds so canggih maut but actually only went there because it was held in Nikko Hotel and thought they will let us dine at the buffet lunch for free (am not at fault, the buffet has chocolate fondue). Alas, the best they offered was nasi briani.

On a more serious note, over the weekend, one thing that I realized was that young people are not that apathetic anymore, in the sense that we are more aware of the socio-political developments and issues in the country.

Not just drawing from this experience, but previous meeting with teen and youth peers somewhat also supported the notion. And I somehow sense that facebook and blogspot played a big role in this; so did March 8 2008.

However, am unfortunately a little skeptical. Awareness is good, but what ultimately matters is the action itself. Many spoke passionately (not to mention many nonsensically as well) over the weekend on a myriad of issues; ranging from education, politics, business, etc.

But as time goes by, the hype and enthusiasm will surely fizzle out, leading us to return to our indifferent and self-centered lives.

Nevertheless, that's good progress. We’re getting somewhere.

Midsem Escapade

Four years into college and am finally having my maiden midsemester holidays, lasting till next week; yes, college's a bummer I know.

Have mentally compiled a to-do list:

- update this unfortunate, 1 month forsaken blog; check done
- eat durian; yet to have any in 2009
- sleep lots, eat lots, jog lots
- cleanse blood from caffeine (midsem test just over)
- satisfy durian craving
- watch transformers
- pray that Xabi Alonso stays in Liverpool
- finish reading book
- eating spree - satay celup, cendol, ikan bakar, durian
- lots of Asian Food Channel
- wash SLK (small little kancil)
- watch transformers - I'll kill you if you let out spoilers

Michael Jackson

I know facebook, blogs, etc are already swarmed with MJ related messages, but am gonna post this anyway.

Today marks the passing of Michael Jackson, a genius, legend and world icon.

I firmly believe that his personal life is his own darn business and nobody has the right to judge him on that basis alone. As such, will always remember MJ as the artist with unrivaled originality, talent, and passion.

His music is not just music, as they always embedded with strong messages, vision and style, and it's an honour to be in the era where MJ lives. Thanks for the music and memories, MJ.

My risk to H1N1 swine flu just increased 100 folds because the virus is now dancing around in my neighbourhood (Wangsa Maju).

A form 4 student from a school less than 1km away was confirmed to have H1N1. Reported by Wangsa Maju MP here.

Dear TsuChong,

Based on the happenings in the immediate past week, here are a few things for you to remember for the coming one:

1) Do not skip class with the pretext of "I want to self-study" at home and end up sleeping/loafting around mindlessly.

2) Your calorie intake was off the chart - primary suspects include Koko Crunch, Oreo, Chipsmore, and Lexus Duo Peanut Butter and Chocolate biscuit.

3) Sleeping at 3.30am when class is at 8am the next day is not a good idea.

4) Spending the whole day watching 10 episodes of Heroes when you have test 2 days away is suicidal (as you would have already found out yesterday after the test).

5) Saying to yourself "I will only watch one episode of Heroes" or "This is the last episode I'm watching" is a lie, and may actually work the reverse.

6) Facebook is an evil time-sucker. Remove it from your bookmarks.

Okay, that all for now. Time to close facebook, grab some Chipsmore and watch Heroes.

Maid: I want to forget the hell

KUALA LUMPUR: Siti Hajar, the Indonesian maid who was badly scarred after allegedly being repeatedly tortured by her employer, just wants to forget her three years of hell and return home to her family in West Java.

The 33-year-old from Garut said she longed to be with her family so she could forget the torture she suffered at the hands of her employer.

“I want to put all the misery I went through behind me. I just want to be with my family,” said Siti when met at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) where she is being treated, yesterday.

Siti had come to work in the country in July 2006 after her divorce from her ice-cream pedlar husband.

Asked if she would return to Malaysia to work, Siti said she was not sure. “But I don’t think all Malaysian employers are bad.”

The maid who is warded at the surgical ward was taken to the gynaecology ward at 1pm. It is learnt that doctors wanted to ensure she was not sexually abused.

Relating her ordeal, Siti said she had tried to escape on a few occasions when she could no longer stand the physical abuse but was always caught by her employer.

She alleged that at times her employer even hit her in front of her (the employer’s) 13-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son.

Her 43-year-old employer, a single mother of two had also allegedly poured boiling water over her and had repeatedly beaten her with a cane since 34 months ago.

The maid had also claimed that she was only fed plain rice twice a day and forced to eat pork at times.

An Indonesian Embassy official who declined to be named said Siti had spoken to her family on the phone.

“Her family is anxious for the case to be resolved as fast as possible because they want her to return to Indonesia,” he said.

Siti escaped from the employer’s residence in Lanai Kiara Condominium in Mont Kiara with the help of a neighbour at 7.30am on Monday.

“I used a steel rod to prise open the front grille and with the help of a neighbour, I took a taxi to the Indonesian Embassy.

“I reached there at 8.30am and the taxi driver gave me RM10 after he heard what had happened to me,” Siti said.

Brickfields police chief Asst Comm Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the employer had been remanded for five days beginning yesterday.

Police will also record statements from the taxi driver who took Siti to the embassy.

On Monday, Indonesian Ambassador Tan Sri Da’i Bactiar said the employer had willingly admitted to abusing Siti.

“She cried and apologised for abusing Siti,” he said.

At This Point of Time

I don't usually open up and blog about myself, my dogs, my clothes, what I had for lunch, daily happenings, etc. But the blog has been so un-frequently updated till feel obliged to post something. Am thus offering myself as a sacrificial lamb... or pig.. or whatever...

Anyways, the last 3 months or so was occupied with internship in EY. Got a sneak preview of the working world, and daymm.. it ain't that pretty. Waking up early sucks, traffic sucks, work gets depressing at times. But retrospectively, was a memorable and fulfilling experience because of 2 reasons; the learnings and experience gained was enriching, and was blessed to be able to meet many awesome people.

Last weekend, helped run a programme for an orang asli community in Bidor, Perak. Brought a bunch of kids from the kampung to KL for a day trip, as they seldom get the opportunity to do so. Was pretty stressed-up planning for the programme, hence was glad and satisfied that things turned out well. May sound cheesy, but the support and warmth between peers was comforting and motivating.

And now (sigh), after months of not going to school, am back to classes. Went to a couple of lectures during the week, and am quite literally dying.

That's all for now.

Najib: Release of ISA detainees done in interest of people

PUTRAJAYA: The release of the 13 Internal Security Act detainees was done in the interest of the people and not to gain popularity, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday.

He said giving priority to the people was the most important mission in the national administrative agenda and, as such, the decision was justified.

The move to release ISA detainees was also proof that the Government was not repressive, he added.

Dr Mahathir pointed out that he was ready to help Umno and the Government by campaigning for Barisan Nasional during the by-elections.

Without revealing the date for the new Cabinet line-up, Najib said the report about a “smaller Cabinet” was something that the media had created and he was still thinking about the line-up.

Ku Li hit bulls eye on the “teaching math and science in English” issue in his latest interview with Malaysiakini when he said:

“What do you want? You want English? Or do you want them to be proficient in Maths and Science? These are two different things.

As a Malay and as a Malaysian, I'd like to be proficient in my own national language. But if you want me to know English better, then teach me English.

Why must you use a foreign language to master Science and Maths? For the well-being of the country, it is essential that everybody should know their (national) language and that they know their roots.”

My stand on this is parallel with his.

It is not necessary to teach M&S in English if the ultimate aim is to improve our proficiency in them. Looking at countries like Japan, Korea, and China, they are doing fine with M&S despite not having the best command of English.

Instead, Bahasa Malaysia should be used, primarily for nation building purposes. At 52 years of age, Malaysia is relatively still an infant nation; even Liverpool FC is older than our country. As such, a more conscious effort needs to be taken to ensure proper nation building.

Having a national language is important for nation building for the very simple fact that it stimulates unity. I understand the sentiments of those who are championing the course of mother-tongue language. Am not against that, but above all, I think everyone has to give priority to the national language if we are serious in creating unity.

It is a little radical, but it’s necessary.

After 3 Weeks

It's been a tiring couple of weeks, primarily because of work.

Internship has been great, learned lots of stuff despite just 3 three weeks. Was a little overwhelmed at the beginning, because the theoreticals that are taught in school is vastly different from its practical counterpart; it merely provides the foundation to understand the work that you're doing.

Late nights are common, being back at 8pm is a blessing. Traffic jam is massive, crazy.

But am still looking forward to it. Still lots to learn.

When Cars Don't Move

Am back in KL and started internship programme couple of days back.

Will be in Ernst & Young for 3.5 months.

Office's situated in Damansara and am currently still traumatized from the morning traffic crawl oh my garwd. Spent bout 40 minutes this morning to move for about 500m along Jalan Genting Klang (remember this road and should you be working in KL next time, don't ever live around the area).

No joke, it's seriously having a picnic in the car with vehicles as the backdrop.

Horrendous... horrendousss...

More on interships later maybe. Past 2 days was orientation, work starts tomorrow.

Passion

I found passion today.

No, not my passion, but passion in someone else. It’s my lecturer who is also my course’s supervisor in-charged of the student’s affairs and welfare.

It’s hard to explain, but despite knowing her for only a short period, it’s easy to see that she’s truly dedicated to her job.

What inspired me were her work rate, energy and efficiency. By being the programme supervisor, she’s inherently heaped with tones of administrative work; includes having to attend to the many whimpers and hitches of 300+ students of all personalities.

In addition are the teaching duties which she had put so much effort and time into.

What’s more impressive is her being a mother of 2 infants.

Writing about the amount of work she has to juggle everyday does not do justice to her, because clearly, I suck big time at describing things. But just wanna say that it’s amazing to see people with such enthusiasm and determination in carrying out their job.

Maybe it’s more than a job, it’s a passion that gives her the reason and will to go on.

Often, we’re so stressed and burned out because of the things that we have to do. Perhaps we need to stop and think about the reasons we’re doing them, and find the inner strength to carry on.

For the New Year – 2009

2009 is here. Time does fly by so very quickly, till I’m starting to believe that someone somewhere is pressing the fast forward button. If you haven’t already noticed, it’s the THIRD of January 2009 now. The first and second day of 2009 felt like two hours, not days.

Anyway, this may sound morbid, but I view a “year” as nothing more than a cycle of time. On one side it does signifies a new beginning, hope, and refreshment. But then again, realities are often the same as the previous year and past baggage is carried forward.

To put thing in simpler words, life goes on and it’s just another day like many others.

Having said that, as I reflect on 2008, I feel contented. It was a year of growth; much were learnt, experienced, felt and done. Nothing extraordinary, but yet paradoxically, it was a year that brought a good deal of fulfillment, realizations and self-discovery.

Looking forward to the challenges of 2009.

Little Kids With Guns

Came across this news article in TheStar a couple of days back. It reads “Up to 6,000 child soldiers recruited in Darfur”

Imagine that. Children as young as 11 years old are carrying guns, going around KILLING people. Most of them probably don’t even know what are they fighting and risking their life for; it’s a battle without purpose.

It’s heart-aching to see those children being robbed off their opportunity to live a proper life. Such experience would definitely leave an irrevocable scar and trauma on their lives. More importantly, they are being deprived off their rights to proper development and survival.

“U.N. agencies estimate more than four million people have been affected by almost six years of fighting in Darfur. Of those roughly 700,000 were born since 2004, so all their life they have lived in an area that has been in conflict”.

“Ahmed Adam is in the second grade. When he was just five years old, his uncle was killed in an attack on their village. The one thing he remembers about that day is the fear he saw in his elders and his parents, a fear that he did not expect from his protectors. Over eight people were killed that day. Luckily, after the attacks, him and his family were able to escape to Jabal Mastaria. For three weeks they stayed on that mountain until they were finally able to make their way to the Mastaria valley where many other villages had gathered.”

At such young age, much of hope is gone, robbed.

More sadly, the plight of the children is perhaps only a fraction of the crisis that Darfur is in. What happened in the past 6 years is an inhumane ethnic-based genocide that the people there do not deserve at all.

Some background on Dafur:

“Darfur is a western region about the size of Texas or France, located in Sudan – a country in northeastern Africa. The culmination of decades of drought and government neglect of the region led two rebel groups to challenge the Sudanese Government in 2003. In retaliation, the government unleashed a genocidal campaign against the Darfur rebels, and against living civilians in the region. As a result, over 400,000 people had died, millions have been forced to flee their homes, and countless villages have been burned to the ground. Living in a state of fear has become the way of life for citizens of Darfur”

All these may sound distant and unrelated to us. But ultimately, it has an easy and literal message to it; people’s lives are being taken away unrightfully (well, not that there’s a “rightfully” anyway).

Bill Clinton in Kuala Lumpur – BC Sekhar Memorial Lecture

Turns out that I did attend Clinton’s lecture in KL yesterday afterall. Was held at KL Convention Centre.

But was there as a volunteer, and helped out in the public guests registration. And really, when you’re handling the mass public, you’ll get to meet lots of nasty people. Despite the many CEO, director, datuk, etc designations, a lot of people were just plain rude.

Ignorant people I’ve met a lot, but oh boy, yesterday was worse than that. Some would purposely find fault and raise their voices right from the get go; as though they’ll drop dead immediately if they be just a little courteous.

Not trying to chastise Malaysians, as most are nice and reasonable yesterday. But argg... those few rotten apples should be lynched.

Anyway, the lecture itself was great. Will not elaborate much on what Clinton said; just google it and you should be able to find the transcript or something. But what impresses me the most is Clinton’s vast involvements in humanitarian issues – HIV/AIDS, climate change, health care, economics etc – via his foundations.

And am quite sure that he’s very much passionate and involved in them because he can relate so well to those subjects. He shared a good number of stories, PRECISE facts, experiences, opinions and statistics. His knowledge on global issues is amazing. One moment he’s talking about AIDS, the other moment he’ll be talking about global warming and next bout the current financial crisis.

As I’ve always believed, a leader has to have a certain degree of intelligence. Yes, he/she has to be smart, sharp, and well-read, not just having oratory skills. Of course you’ll still need charisma, but above that, the knowledge must be present.

In Malaysia, there’re two MPs that I believe have such qualities – Jeff Ooi and Tony Pua. For me, they encompass what future Malaysian leaders should be.

Anyways, on a whole, it was a day well spent.

In Tatters? What Tatters?

Much publicity has been casted on Thailand’s latest political rally, where the main airport was blockaded. Thailand’s political problem had stretch over 3 years, since Thaksin was ousted back then.

Took a glimpse at The Star’s headline today in a newsstand. It read “Thailand in Tatters”. I suppose many people would think that Thailand is in a big mess now; that people are rioting, bombings, shops are closed, debris all over, fights, killing, arrests, etc.

I beg to differ. If one thing that I learn about Thailand from those series of rallies is that the people there have GUTS.

That they are willing to fight and sacrifice for the betterment of their country.

That they’re brave enough to stand up for what’s right and wrong.

That they have the maturity to take action.

That they’re blockading the airport not merely to create havoc and inconveniences, but as a form of peaceful resistance for the love of their country.

And they’ve won. The Constitution Court of Thailand has sacked and declared the ruling party to be disbanded.

Assuming that there’re no further obstacles, Thailand can only grow from the ashes, move forward and be stronger than ever. The people have won, you can never beat people power.

To the Thais, good luck with much respect.

They Are Humans Too

Was reading the report about the court’s decision on the Nirmala Bonat’s case.

Bout 5 years ago, pictures of Nirmala’s severely scarred body were plastered across newspapers headline. It was alleged that her employer (she was an Indonesian working as a domestic helper) abused her by pressing a hot iron against her body and splashing hot water on her.

Today, the court found the defendant (the employer) guilty, and she was sentenced to 18 years of jail. That’s a pretty severe sentence eh?

Yes, it's the same person!

In Malaysia, it’s common for people to hire foreign people, especially Indonesian as domestic helpers (or maids as they are more fondly known as), constructions workers, restaurant helpers, etc, mainly because of their cheap wages.

In fact, read in the infamous Dr. Chua Soi Lek’s blog that about 20% of the Malaysian workforce is made up of foreigners. We’re been depending far too much and far too long on foreigners to fill up these “dirty” and “undesirable” jobs that nobody else wants a hand in. It would be difficult to undo this heavily rooted dependency, unless a long-term policy is made to gradually reduce the amount of foreign workers.

Getting back to Nirmala’s case. Can somewhat relate to the case, because my mom employs domestic helpers in her childcare business.

Most employers, especially those of the older generation, see these foreign workers (especially maids) as of a lower class than them. The employers are the tuans, and the maids are the servants. They do not see these people as humans, but instead as tool, whose purpose is to work and nothing more.

They employers feel that they’re of the more superior, and fail to realize that the Indonesians have feelings and needs as well; that they need rest, leisure and have the right to be treated respectfully.

True, some of them are nuisances whom escalate crime and diseases. But that is no reason to have such prejudice and adverse stereotype towards the rest of their counterparts whom are here to earn an honest living.

Often in Malaysia, we complain about racial inequality and discrimination. But how different are we if we continue perceiving these foreign workers as people of a lower class?

No Appeal Against Abdul Razak Baginda’s Acquittal

Malaysiakini reports that the prosecution team is not pursuing an appeal to the acquittal of Abdul Razak Baginda in the Altantuya murder case. Check out the report here @ Malaysiakini

Some things to clarify if you’re unaware. If my understanding is right:-

· The prosecutors (not prostituters) are the one that are who are suppose to prove that Razak Baginda is guilty

· They are like the gov’s lawyers, under the directives of the AG chamber

There was lots of hanky-panky in this trial:-

· At the very beginning, there was this sudden switch of prosecution team in the last minute, just a day before the trial began

· It was also very quickly decided that only 3 parties were involved in the murder – Razak and the 2 commandos – as if to say that “somebody” is not involved.

· The PI Bala statutory declaration and his immediate U-turn the day after.

· Etc that I may not know of

And now, this no appeal thing. As Haris Ibrahim pointed out, he and his lawyer friends “cannot recall an instance where there has been an acquittal in a murder trial and the prosecution have not appealed the acquittal.”

Why no appeal? Trying to save cost kah?

Really, it’s either they are real bad idiotic crooks who dropped out of school and can’t come with a good cover-up plan, or, they are just insulting our intelligence.

Come on, people are not that stupid.

A Different Reality

I helped in facilitating a non-discrimination workshop two days ago in SMK Selayang Bharu for the form 3 students there. Was a good experience because the realities in that school were very much different from what we usually go through.

In the school, racial segregation was very apparent. Though this is the case in most, if not all, of the govn. establishments in Malaysia, the level of racial sentiments in that school was a little higher than the normal.

There was race gangsterism, where gangs were made up of students of a particular race, and racial gang fights were quite common in the area. Fatalities did happen.

In that school, discrimination is common.

Also, whilst walking around the school compound, students can be seen lingering all over when classes were on. Initially, I though it was after-school hours already, but it ain’t. In the classes, many were uninterested.

It was common for students to “lompat pagar”, i.e. jump over the school fence and ponteng. It’s an everyday thing.

Teachers were helpless and were exhausted of actions. Corporal punishment is peanuts.

Students were very uncooperative during the workshops. They just refuse to participate. 11 left after morning tea, over the fences. Many followed suit after lunch, thus leaving only 7 participants from the initial 30.

Not trying to badmouth the school, but just wanna point out the stark difference in reality between what most of us would have gone through in our schooling years and this.

Even in our own schools in the past, many of us were probably confined to our own world and course; too busy to notice what’s happening in the other end of the spectrum.

Do I feel thankful for what I had? Yea I do. But above that, it’s more disturbing to know that such conditions exist, but not able to do something substantial to solve it.

But yea, sometimes it’s good to hear the other side of the story, the other side of the coin. When you’re down and frustrated for not getting what you wanted, or you’re jealous of something, just remember of the many others whom are very much less fortunate, and be satisfied for what’s in front of you.

We may not have everything, but surely, there are many things that we can be very happy about.

Crunch Time - Chelsea v. Liverpool

It’s crunch time for Liverpool FC come Sunday when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Both teams are level on points and are occupying the top two spots in the league, with Chelsea above on goal difference.

Sunday’s game will be a pivotal moment in Liverpool’s campaign. All the hype, confidence, expectations, come-backs, and good-feeling may be crushed if they were to lose on Sunday.

It’s huge. If they win, people can no longer deny that they’re a real contender to the league crown this Sunday. People can no longer say that their unbeaten run thus far is luck driven.

It’ll be exceptionally huge if they win, because there are fitness doubts on not just El-nino, but three other key players as well; Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, and Robbie Keane. Skertel’s out too, and Daniel Agger is still very much untested.

If they can pull this off without these key players, it’ll be a great team win.

Having said that, getting a point out of the clash would be a good result as well, considering the fact that Chelsea “has not lost at home in the Premier League for 86 matches, a run which stretches back to a loss against Arsenal on February 21, 2004.”

I’m betting on Liverpool’s current form and consistent resilience. We’ll wait and see how it turns out!

New Pendrive

Got myself a new 4GB pendrive yesterday.

Been using my 256MB pendrive since form 4. It served well, and very durable too; it once accidentally went for a “wash” in the washing but survives, but the data inside were literally “washed-off” (not kidding).

I remember buying the 256MB at about RM80+, but the new 4GB one cost only RM38. Market’s price only bout RM30 though, bought it at a higher mark-up because it was a fund raising event.

Crazy price drop in tech stuff. Hoping that PS3 will drop to RM300? Alrite, RM400 is fine too.

The Messy Trade of Oil

Crude oil price had been crazily fluctuating in the past year. Reaching a record high of $147 in June/July, it is now only hovering around $70 per barrel. Safe to say, the price back in June was definitely not driven by market forces, but instead, by speculations.

Also a few months back, the gov decided to price petrol on a floating basis thus increasing petrol prices by 78 cents, and give a fuel rebate of RM600 per vehicle. The decision was made in anticipation that crude oil prices will remain high and that the gov will not be able to sustain the fuel subsidy. That assumption, based on today’s figures, is of course wrong.

Since the 78 cents increment, we’ve seen 3 price reductions which in total, have reduced the price by 40 cents. The reduction was in line with the reduction in global prices.

Will we see a further reduction in petrol prices? Quite unlikely, based on 2 reasons.

Firstly, it is likely that OPEC will decrease production to stabilize prices. Doubt they’ll let the price to slip below $65.

Second, the current global financial turmoil will end sooner or later. Market sentiments are currently uncertain, but as things stabilize, life will be back to normal again.

It is hence pretty unlikely that crude oil prices will continue to drop beyond $65.

But in whichever consequences, the crude oil market will remain volatile. And such a characteristic is definitely ain’t good for business.

Not forgetting, the gov still has the RM600 rebate mess to administer and maintain, which in the first place is a messy and ineffective move.

Democracy Takes Another Blow with Zaki Azmi’s Nomination as the CJ

I read Malaysiakini’s latest headlines with discomfort and disappointment. Here’s an extract of the report:-

Tan Sri Zaki Azmi is the current Court of Appeal president. And according to the report, he will be promoted as the new CJ when Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohamad retires. Meaning he’ll be the leader of the judges in Malaysia.

The problem is that Tan Sri Zaki Azmi is very much connected to UMNO, and hence also to the government. If being UMNO’s lawyer is not enough, he is/was also chairman of its election committee, disciplinary board, and very much involved in several government-linked entities.

The 3 pillars of democracy – the executive(government), judiciary, and legislative branches - takes a hit again. Fundamentally, the 3 branches must be independent of each other in other to ensure that the democracy system can be practiced in a fair and just manner.

But with Zaki’s involvement in UMNO and his soon-to-be-made appointment as the CJ, there’s a clear sign of conflicting interest. There is simply no independence in appearance and practice.

The Malaysiakini report is particularly disturbing because apparently, Zaki Azmi was nominated by the Rulers’ Council itself. The overlapping interest of Zaki should be a strong enough basis to not make him the CJ. He’s connection with UMNO is explicit and clear. Which leads to the question – why did the Sultans and Agong still chose to nominate him?

I just hope it’s not a sign of desertion from our dear rulers; that the cries and pleads of the rakyat are turning on deaf ears.

Studying Smart – The Tony Buzan Way

Attended a talk in college yesterday on study techniques, or more precisely “The Tony Buzan Way” using mind maps. When signed up, didn’t expect that the speaker would be Tony Buzan himself. But he was personally present to present the talk.

If you haven’t already know, Tony Buzan is first and foremost the creator/pioneer of mind maps. He’s also world renown as a guru of mental literacy techniques, author of over 100 books, founder of the Mind Sports Olympiad, World Memory Championships, etc. Yup, its a lot about the brains.

During the talk, one of the things that he spoke about was on the revolution of the human mind. It started 10,000 years ago with the agrarian age, proceeded by the industrial age and then the information age that we’ve all came to know.

And what the information age brought was information overload. It soon didn’t matter how much you know, because information is free flow; people can obtain it easily if they really want it. And hence it became a race of who can apply the knowledge the base. It’s the knowledge era. It’s not about what you know, but what you do with what you know…. You know?

Tony didn’t stop there. He somewhat predicted that the next (or maybe the current) age is the age of intelligence. In this age, it’s about “managing the manager of the knowledge”. Which means, what will matter next is how well you manage your brain – how well you think, remember, and coordinate yourself.

And the way to stay ahead and manage your brain well is to invest in intellectual capital. Make your brain your hobby. This may include:

Developing mental operations from various available source
Healthy body = healthy mind
Train memory
Use mind maps to learn
Train creativity
Copy from the best and improve

It’s difficult to describe what’s this all about. But here’s a recommendation – read this book.

“Use Your Head” by Tony B himself. I’ve read it and it help quite a lot in understanding the brain and how it functions. The book is not thick, can be done reading in a day or two. Check your school library, it should be there.

Parliament Reconvenes and Nothing Happened

Today’s the day where Parliament reconvenes its session.

Been visiting Malaysiakini throughout the day in anticipation that DSAI will move a motion of no confidence against the PM.

But instead, Malaysiakini’s headline resembles nothing of that kind.

It’s 13 October today, which is close to a month from Sept 16; the date which Pakatan Rakyat was supposed to be the fed government.

As time goes by, DSAI’s and PR’s credibility will continue to diminish if no change were to take place.

As time goes by, it is more likely that PR’s allegation of forming the new gov is a lie.

As time goes by, ironically, it will just go by without any change.

I hate to admit that the promise of 916 is a mere untrue ploy. Please do prove me and many others wrong.

Liverpool’s Painting It Red

Last Sunday’s BPL match between Man City and Liverpool was a real cracker. 2 – 0 down on halftime, Liverpool scored thrice in the second half to triumph like the true winners that they are.

I previous wrote about Lee Chong Wei’s lost to Lin Dan in the Beijing Olympics final; arguing that he may not be a true champion after all. Along those lines, here’s a person who is a real proven champion.

Fernando Torres.

Equalized against Chelsea in last season’s Champion’s League semifinal.

Scored against Sunderland in the last minute in the opening match of the season.

Scored the winner for Spain against Germany in the 2008 European Championships.

Scored twice in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

Scored twice again on Sunday against Man City.

Those, are the clear hallmarks of a true champion. They deliver when it matters most.

On another note, it was not Torres alone who brought the victory, but the team as a whole. Finally la, Liverpool showing the consistency that is needed.

Yea yea you Arsenal and Chelsea fans (yes I’m left MU out on purpose) can continue arguing that we’re lucky but fact of the matter is this – one time is luck, two times is still luck, three times definitely ain’t luck.

What I Did for the Past 3 Weeks

Had semester break, and was really rotting at home, doing many things, but much that are unproductive.

Nevertheless, had a good break, and am recharged.

School begins tomorrow. And I have freaking class on Saturday! Arg.

916 Malaysia Day Celebration in Kelana Jaya Stadium

I do realize that this is the 4^th consecutive politically-themed post in my blog. But it’s just something that is so compelling and consequential.

Just came back from Kelana Jaya Stadium for the Pakatan Rakyat’s Malaysia Day celebration. Speeches from various PR leaders.

Two things being said that interest me the most.

One was said by Selangor’s MB, Khalid Ibrahim. Earlier when reached the stadium, our Muslim counterparts were performing prayers. There were of course others non-muslims whom were already there. Khalid noticed how the non-Muslims understood the Muslims’ religious requirement to pray. At that moment, we were somewhat separated by our religious differences, but when the prayer was done, everybody came together as one again.

The other was said by Anwar Ibrahim himself. He said that the most special characteristic of a Malay is their budaya (culture). Their budaya of being courteous, respectful, and fair to anybody regardless of race, religion, status, etc. It’s meaningful because many people have stereotypes about Malays; that they were lazy, rude, mat rempit etc. But those were often isolated cases. The root/budaya of Orang Melayu is actually a pure one.

So anyway, are there any major announcements on 916? We he did say that PR had sent a letter to Pak Lah requesting to meet him for 2 reasons. First is for the immediate release of the ISA detainees. Secondly, to inform and show Pak Lah proof that they have the numbers to form the new govn, and to discuss a peaceful transition plan.

But he did reiterate again that they had the numbers, and 916 marks the day where concrete plans and actions will be taken towards forming the new govn. And he said it with a very very very serious face (which doesn’t look like Syed Albar’s face when he tried justifying the ISA arrests).

Yea, so I guess we’ll still have to wait a little longer.

But it doesn’t matter. Because as mentioned by Lim Kit Siang, it will happen because Malaysian now BELIEVE that CHANGE is possible, and they WANT it to happen, as compared to say 6 months ago before the general elections.

Will You Abandon Ship?

Last night, Teresa was informed at about nine something that she could be on the blacklist of ISA arrests, with the suggestion she go into hiding. Teresa refused as she believed that there is no reason why she should go into hiding as she had not done anything wrong to the country and she was fully prepared to face any ISA arrest.

I am very proud of her. I am reminded of my first ISA arrest in 1969 when some party leaders advised me not to return to Kuala Lumpur from Kota Kinabalu as I was on the ISA blacklist. I refused to run away from the country, as I maintained that when the people was going through their darkest hour, the place for me was in the country with them.

Teresa Kok is Also Arrested Under ISA

UPDATE 1 : Candle light virgil will be held tonight, at Bukit Aman(police HQ) entrance, to be in solidarity with RPK, the reporter, Teresa, and also all ISA detainees. Just sit the Putra LRT and stop at Masjid Jamek Station, then walk. It's near.

UPDATE 2: No, it's FREAKING FAR to walk from Masjid Jamek Station to Bukit Aman.

It’s a crackdown again. Ops lalang is back. Earlier today, RPK was arrested. Later in the evening, the reporter who covered the Ahmad fiasco speech was also detained in Penang.

And now, DAP MP for Seputeh, Teresa Kok had just been arrested under ISA. This is crazy. Did a quick blog search and I think it could be because of 2 reasons.

1) Teresa Kok issued a press statement earlier condemning the arrest of RPK under ISA. Perhaps she was arrested to tell people that “this is what gonna happen to you if you talk now”.

2) The azan issue, involving Khir Toyo. She wrote an entry bout this in her own blog.

If more are arrested tomorrow, it could well be a bitter and painful end; the end of everything.

Raja Petra Arrested Under ISA

King Blogger, Raja Petra (RPK) has been arrested under ISA today.

Ridiculously, this came a day after the MCMC unblocked the MalaysiaToday site.

Please pray for the safety and freedom of RPK.

I remember, back in secondary school, I had no exposure whatsoever on how BN’s screwing the company. It was sites like MalaysiaToday and Lim Kit Siang’s blog that provided the other side of the story; those stories that would never ever make it to the mainstream media.

One the first report that I read in MalaysiaToday was the Khairy chronicles. Was suspicious about the accuracy of the report, but as I continued visiting MalaysiaToday, there was an unexplainable trust that grew. Things turned out to be pretty accurate, and not many have refuted the reports on solid grounds.

Imagine this, RPK was a person who dedicated his life to justice, freedom and democracy. He could have done so many other things with his life. He could have chose to not bother about anything and just live a comfortable life. But yet, he chose to fight for the people of Malaysia.

A real fighter he is. We salute you RPK. May your ISA arrest be a temporary one.

A Lesson From “Money Not Enough 2”

Note: This post contains mild spoilers.

Went to watch Jack Neo’s “Money Not Enough 2” yesterday.

I suppose it’s an alright show. Was real emotion-triggering but what I didn’t like was the use of computer visuals. Looked real unrealistic. I normal scene would be much better.

Anyway, the message that struck me most in the movie was that, no matter how financially/materially troubled a person is, it really ain’t that big of a deal. It’s only a big deal because people can get so attached to materials till they fear losing them. There’s a fear that things are gonna change.

In the movie, the 3 main characters had a good income, and things started going wrong. They were in debts, and could no longer support their luxurious life. One turned into a taxi driver while the other a cleaner.

That’s when it struck me. Unless it’s life threatening, no problem can be too big. All things can get wrong, but we can always start from scratch again. We’ve just got to stand up and be strong instead of lamenting on the problems.

In the words of Batman’s konco (Alfred), “Why do we fall, sir? So that we might learn to pick ourselves up.”

Malaysian Budget 2009 – Operational Expenses

The Malaysian Budget for 2009 was tabled bout a week ago.

Well, unfortunately am not proficient enough to analyze it. But, just to share an interesting point that was brought up by DAP MP for PJ Utara, Tony Pua.

“Next year, the budgeted operational expenditure is another record RM154.2 billion. This figure is both shocking and scary as operational expenditure for the government when Abdullah Badawi first became prime minister in 2004 was only RM80.5 billion.

In just a short period of four to five years, government operational expenditure has increased by 91.5% or RM73.7 billion. This raises the question as to what the government is spending its money on which requires such substantial increase in operational expenses?”

Operational expenses are things like civil servant salaries, rental, utility expenditure, bonus, office supplies, etc.

Even if inflation is taken into consideration, 91.5% in 5 years is pretty high no? I guess this shows that the gov’s machinery is just “overweight” – too bulky, clumsy, inefficient, and flimsy.

Exam Jitters

Having exams tomorrow, and the usual jittery feeling is here again.

Probably caused by expectations. Self-expectations. Know it’s not necessary but somehow, it’s is still stuck-ed in the head.

Am prepared, finished revision. Paper shouldn’t be much of a hassle (better not be!). But the uneasiness is still there.

Maybe it’s the notion of “EXAMS” itself? I guess no matter what you do, how prepared you are, no matter how easy it is, how confident you are, exams will still be exams. It makes you tidur tak lena, makan tak kenyang, mandi tak basah.

Need to calm self down. OOOOoooooommmmmm.

Abdullah Tries the LRT

Yesterday’s headlines in the Star newspaper reads “PM unhappy with City rail services” Abdullah takes a ride around KL on the LRT.

“Throughout the one-hour journey, during which he switched trains, the prime minister noted the congestion, especially during the peak hours, and spoke to his fellow passengers to get their feedback.

Speaking to Bernama after disembarking at the Masjid Jamek LRT station, he said he was not satisfied with the rail services and wanted immediate improvements to be made.

He said the existing services were not systematic, there were not enough coaches and coverage was not comprehensive, leaving many areas not serviced.”

Aiyoo Dato Seri. Now only you know?? After more than 5 years as a Prime Minister?? And didn’t Sharir tell you?

You know what, Pak Lah should also try the following:

Take express busses from Puduraya
Sit through lectures in local universities
Walk through the dark alleys of Wangsa Maju at night
Try support his family with RM3500 per month (own self pump petrol)
Spend a weekend at the many orang asli settlements that lack basic amenities
Pay toll everyday
Do the SPM’s Pendidikan Moral subject
Spend a weekend at the rumah panjangs affected by the Bakum Dam(n) in Sarawak
Write a complain/enquire to a civil department and wait for the reply

Avril Lavigne’s Concert in Malaysia Cancelled

“KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Malaysia on Tuesday canceled a concert by Canadian rock singer Avril Lavigne, saying it may taint the Muslim-majority country's independence day celebrations after the Islamic opposition slammed her show as being "too sexy."

The Arts, Culture and Heritage Ministry said it had decided not to permit Lavigne's show because it was unsuitable to Malaysian culture and could not be held on Aug. 29, two days ahead of independence day.

"It is not timely. It's not in the good spirit of our National Day. If we go ahead with the concert, it is contrary to what we are preparing for," said Shukran Ibrahim, a senior official from the culture ministry's department that vets all foreign artists.

The decision came after the youth wing of a fundamentalist opposition party, the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, called for the show's cancellation.”

From what’s being written, it seems that PAS is to be blamed for the cancellation because they oppose the Avril Lavigne concert.

Here’s another perspective. Who’s the one who DECIDED to cancel the concert? Who’s the one with the AUTHORITY to cancel the show?

It’s the BN government.

The way I see it? A freaking clear political tactic.

You think that the govn nut-heads actually decided to cancel the show solely because they agree with PAS?

So many other far more important things that PAS have voice-out but they buat bodoh.

And this they listen?

They can allow Pussycatdolls but Avril cannot? Ouch...

Are they doing this to make PAS and Pakatan Rakyat as a whole look bad? Permatang Pauh election underway remember? That’s exactly what they wanted. For people to be angry and blame PAS, while in actually fact, they’re the one who made the decision. Wanna bet tomorrow’s newspaper headline will be on this?

And the reporting is also a little weird. What’s with the “independence day” crap and all? Diverting from the issue la.

Assuming that PAS’s proposition to cancel the concert is wrong, ain’t the govn even guiltier for accepting the proposition? Because ultimately they’re the one who made the decision. (abettor and murderer are both guilty)

So yea, look at both sides of the bread (coin).

One of the socio-political blogs that I enjoy reading a lot is Haris Ibrahim’s “The People’s Parliament”. This dude writes with conviction, passion, sense and omphh. Also, He’s the one whom conceived the idea of “Barisan Rakyat”.

This is one of the best that he’s written before. It’s real inspiring. It’s an open letter to Anwar Ibrahim regarding his promises. I think, Haris has encapsulated what many more Malaysians wanna say to Anwar.

I write to you as one anak Bangsa Malaysia to another.

My friends and I were pleased to read in the Malaysiakini report of 14th August that you have forgiven your enemies for what they have done to you over the last ten years, but that you will never forget what they have done to you.

It is good that you have found it in your heart to forgive them, for otherwise you will end up bitter and vindictive like a certain ‘past the shelf-life’ politician who just simply refuses to fade away.

No, you don’t want to carry bitterness within you.

And indeed you must never forget, for it is the remembrance of what you have gone through that will serve you well in two ways.

One, to never do to others or allow to be done by others what has been inflicted upon you.

Two, so that you will not allow those who have wronged you the opportunity to do again what they have done to you before.

My sister, I like Chopin, has asked me to tell you that she has forgiven you your 16 years of involvement, at least by association and failure to dissociate, with the autocratic, dictatorial, corrupt Mahathir administration.

Yes, most of my friends and I, like my sister, have long forgiven you for your involvement in the atrocities committed by Mahathir during his reign of destruction and pillage, even if only by association and your failure to dissociate with his regime.

But like you, we, too, have not forgotten.

Just as remembrance will serve you well, so too us.

Will we ever forget?

I cannot speak for the others, but for me, I think that is really up to you.

Before I proceed further, so as to lessen the hurt, if any, of what I am about to say, let me first say that whilst I have the highest regard for YB Lim Kit Siang and YB Lim Guan Eng, yet in the matter of the politics and governance of this nation, I do not trust them implicitly and without question, because they are politicians and 50 years of BN politics has delivered a hard and painful lesson to many of us.

Don’t trust politicians completely.

Many times last year, I wrote in this blog that I wished you would give me a reason to trust you.

Whilst I have to be frank and tell you that I still do not trust you, three things have persuaded me to ‘take a chance’.

First, and this is the only rational factor of the three, this nation needs to be rid of the racist, divide and rule politics of BN. UMNO will not change, and the other component parties have shown themselves to be helplessly subservient to UMNO.

You and your party leaders, together with the leaders of DAP, have been taking policy positions or making policy statements that, by far and large, seem to be in line with the aspirations of the people.

I say ’seem’ because much still remains to be seen.

I had actually wanted to say all the Pakatan leaders but, truly, PAS has been giving us some serious concerns of late.

The second and the third factors are, in truth, ‘gut’ reactions.

Raja Petra wrote a series to remind us of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into your ‘black eye’ beating at the hands of the former IGP.

My eyes teared when I read your testimony about the beating you received and the day after, the condition you were in, and the refusal by the police to afford you treatment.

Yes, I still think you owe the nation an apology for your 16 years in the Mahathir administration.

We, too, as a nation, though, owe you and your family an apology, for all that you and your family have been through these last 10 years.

I am sorry.

Then, on 5th August, I heard you deliver your ceramah in Bentong, Pahang.

I have attended many of your ceramah but, quite frankly, this was the first time that I heard you speak with humility, particularly your appeal to any who might feel inclined to go to Permatang Pauh to help in your election campaign.

What particularly touched me and my family who were present, something that has also got the mention of G. Krishnan in his blog today, was when you said :

‘Anak Melayu, anak kita, anak Cina anak kita, anak India, pun anak kita. Mengapa harus kita bezakan?”

Succinctly, you had articulated that which I have felt for such a long, long time and which, without more, sums up the spirit of anak Bangsa Malaysia that I hope one day will be definitive of us as a people of this nation.

It is this last matter that I have mentioned, irrational as it may seem to many, that has most moved me to ‘take a chance’.

A word of advice.

Don’t make the mistakes of Pak Lah.

You have made us many pledges and promises.

I quote you from the Malaysiakini report mentioned above :

“But how do you run a government and affect changes, move forward - we need a new Malaysian awareness, we need unity of all races, we need a new vibrant economy, we need to reform the judiciary and bring back confidence in a more professional police force - if you get yourself engrossed with the past?…If it (involves) 2,000 acres and two billion ringgit - it’s just not my right to forgive, they have to return the money. But otherwise, we cannot afford to drag the entire country back to the past.”

Keep your promises to us.

Where we can recover the nation’s wealth that has been stolen, we must.

You must not do favours for anyone from the past by interfering with our law enforcement authorities.

Restore what is rightfully due to the rakyat.

On Black 14, I heard you use the phrase ‘Ketuanan Rakyat’ for the first time.

Do not waver from this.

End race politics.

End the politicisation of Islam.

You must be brave enough to tell the Malays that this country belongs to all the anak-anak Bangsa Malaysia, to remind the Malays again and again that UMNO’s ketuanan Melayu is unIslamic and has been their evil tool to enrich themselves and divide this nation.

Do this, and be assured of the strongest support from the majority of anak-anak Bangsa Malaysia who, by far and large, are decent people.

In the run-up to the 12th GE, the rakyat launched an aspirational document called the ‘People’s Declaration’.

All the Pakatan parties, including yours, indorsed this document.

We took your indorsement seriously and for that reason went all out to work to get the votes for the Barisan Rakyat parties at the last general election.

We will hold you to that indorsement.

A final reminder.

The rakyat today are not like that of 16 years ago.

We understand national issues better, we are better informed, and we have a greater sense of commitment to the ideals of justice and equality.

And we have a newly found self-belief to pursue these ideals and to pursue change.

Understand and remember that we are no longer afraid.

We fully understand today that governance of this nation was intended to be in the hands of the people, and that when you and your party leaders offer to govern, it is with a view to serve us.

Therefore, understand and remember that it is we, the rakyat, who govern through those who have taken oath to serve us.

It is only by abiding by that oath that you might honourably be called a leader of men.

Any less and you would have proven yourself to be no better than those whom you now endeavour to displace.

In the run-up to polling day on the 26th, my friends and I will be in Permatang Pauh to help you in any way we can.

By God’s Grace, you will soon be returned to Parliament. May He also continue to bestow you with wisdom and courage to discharge you duties faithfully.

Champions and True Champions

This post is with regards to Lee Chong Wei’s loss to Lin Dan in the finals yesterday.

Unless he was sick or had some physical unwell-ness, I would attribute the lost to pressure and anxiety. Could clearly see that LCW did not settled down through-out the match, made many unforced errors, and was playing very passively.

So is LCW a champion? Yes.
But is he a true champion? No. Well, not yet at least.

True champions are those who can cope with the pressure of being the best. They persist in defending their titles, rise to the occasion, and do the right thing when it matters most. When the going gets tough, they lay the smack-down on the toughness.

Time and again, Lin Dan had proven that he is currently the best. World championship for the past 2 years, 6 titles in 2007, holding on to the no.1 world ranking, and now a gold medalist in the Olympics.

That’s the hallmark of true champions. They have the physical ability to compete, and the mental strength to withstand the pressure of being the best.

But on another note, a big congratulations and great job to LCW!! A silver medal is no simple feat either. Keep working hard, and you’ll beat Lin Dan’s ass again!

PS: Just a point of discussion/thought on the “Malaysians’ mental strength” issue. It is said that our athletes often lack the mental strength when it matters the most. Maybe it has got something to do with the education system and culture?

Like, many Malaysians have this “thing” of being overly humble and nice, and sometimes this may cause us to not cope well with pressure. Well, comparing LCW and Lin Dan, it’s I feel that LCW is this innocent little humble kid from Penang, while Lin Dan is clearly an arrogant (he can be so when he’s world no.1!) proud person. And that may have provided the difference in their self-believe.

Well, just my thoughts.

Don't forget, got Chlorine in the water so oxidation of pipings are really regular. Carbon filters are not too good because it filters most minerals as RO water does. The carbon filters become dirty not because the water is dirty but because of the minerals.....so haha....get facts first oh.....sorry had to..haha sorry ah but haha actually carbon filters not very very very good. On 5th June 2008, the govn removed fuel subsidy, thus increasing the price of petrol by 78 cents to RM2.70 per litre.

Well, not exactly removed. There’s still a 30 cents floating subsidy, i.e. we’ll pay 30 cents below the market price of fuel.

Here’s an extract of the news report from The Star on 5th June 2008.

“The Government announced yesterday an increase in petrol and diesel prices, stating that it can no longer continue to subsidise fuel.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the new prices were still at a 30-sen per litre discount from market prices.
In other words, if the market price is RM3 per litre, Malaysians will be charged RM2.70 at the pump. He said the price would be adjusted monthly based on the global oil price.”

Price of crude oil per barrel in the month (beginning) of …
June - $128.16
July - $142.52
Aug - $124.57

Was in Pudu last weekend, waiting for bus, when a stranger approached and asked for monetary assistance, as his wallet was apparently snatched.

Is it a trick? Or for real? Where to place your trust?

I gave a little. Was I being naïve and dumb in giving? Isn’t it obvious it’s a trick?

Irrelevant if it’s a real or not. What’s more important is that the assistance was offered in good faith. Nobody’s dumb when all he/she did was to place a little trust and gave a helping hand.

You know, things are indeed complicated. Why do you feel un-right when you’ve trusted and helped someone? Shouldn’t it be the contrary?

Is placing trust a gamble? Or should it be in faith?

You know, you just have to know.

It won't bite. Really!

Imagine what would it be like if the Internet and WWW do no exist today?

No email, e-banking, you won’t be reading this blog, no ebay, yahoo, google, youtube, smaller economy, slower work rate, etc. The world would be so much smaller, people would know so much less; confined.

The Internet revolution happened not too far back. Somewhere in 1990s. Commercial internet browsers only existed in 1994.

Anyway, just to point out that we actually lived through an important phase in history. You know the industrial revolution that we read about in history text book? Yea, the Internet revolution is perhaps parallel with it, if not greater; in terms of depth and reach.

Who knows what’s next? Space frontier breakthrough maybe. Commercialized trips to the moon!

Plot Thickens

In the words of Anwar, “Lawan tetap lawan!”.

There was a gathering of 10,000 or so people in Stadium Melawati a couple of days ago, to listen to Anwar speak. Check out video.

It was one of the most aggressive speech by Anwar that I’ve ever listened. He’s on fire. Compare his charisma with Pak Lah… it’s sky and earth.

My take is this: The current BN is not competent enough to manage the company, especially in such challenging global conditions. We need something new; a breathe of fresh air. Pakatan Raykat is the way.

Meanwhile, our IGP has come forth and said that the arm forces will help to maintain peace if there’s an outbreak of public security. And there’s an “inaugural six-day joint police-armed forces exercise” being held.

Does he know something we don’t? Or is this just intimidation?

The possibility of public havoc in the event of PR taking over is real. And for me, based on previous happenings (e.g. Ijok by-election, mat rempit, May 13, etc) the havoc creators will be from UMNO-BN.

But nevertheless, the CHANGE still needs to take place. Interesting times ahead; Sept 16 is drawing near.

Just came to know that apparently there's an sms by PKR circulating around, that reads :-

"Polis telah menahan pembantu khas DSAI Saiful Bahari ptg ini dan memaksa beliau membuat pengakuan diliwat. Polis dijangka menahan DSAI hari ini. Sebarkan."

Checked around the blogsphere and seems that quite a few are picking up the story. It's on Malaysiakini as well, but not on mainstream media.

I previously blogged about "The Political Assasination of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim" . Check out the videos to hear for yourself how did the enforces torture, humiliate, "animalize", and abuse the victims to force them into falsely admitting that Anwar sodomized them.

They (whoever those sinful bastards are) must be crazy to be trying this twice. If Anwar does get arrested and put to jail tomorrow, you bet there'll be Reformasi II.

Tomorrow may be a dark day. Brace yourself and pray hard for not just the safety of DSAI, but for all Malaysians as well.

Came across this news item on Bernama.com.

Which I agree. Everyone has a role to play in preserving the environment, and Malaysia has to start somewhere. But don’t seem to hear much about environment preservation policies.

On the other, in the spirit of Malaysia Boleh, our carbon emission growth of 221% (1990-2004) is the highest in the world.

Our overall carbon emission standing is 26^th.

Taking into account the population, our per capita greenhouse gas emission is 4^th (with land usage, e.g. forestry); although it’s based on year 2000, I doubt much have changed, except for the worse.

Maybe there’s nothing much that we, as individuals, can do to reduce fossil fuel dependency. But a little change here and there might make a difference.

If you turn off your light/computer tonight when not in use, you’re already doing your part. So remember to turn them off!
